I just bought tickets for Andrew Bird on St Patricks Day in Tulsa! I have seen him at least once and he is awesome...i'm excited to see him more up close and personal at Cain's Ballroom! He just released an album...Noble Beast, which i have yet to listen to but will keep you updated! Let me know if you are interested in going to Tulsa with us! Click on his picture to go to his website!

So this morning on the way to work i was thinking about teaching music....and wondering what i'm going to do to keep from going completely insane with childrens music...surely their has to be something out their that is okay. Then it hit me....They might be giants has a childrens album....although i haven't heard it, i'm very excited about this idea....i did look at the song list and it seems like something i could work with...and it looks as though they have at least 3 childrens albums and are coming out with another. Then I got to thinking....Jack Johnson, he has the album Sing-a-long and lullabies based from the curious george soundtrack...this is awesome. And i'm finding all kind of musicians that have made childrens albums...including the barenaked ladies. I'm going to check them all out and i'll let you know if they any good!

Yesterday...i got the card that states my last name has officially changed....its weird. I decided to practice before signing it...i signed my last name great....but i totally messed up my first name....isn't that how it always is! :)
1.5 days of work left...woohoo!!

The weekend....

This weekend was a movie weekend...we went on Friday night and saw the dark knight (again, we love it)...we went on Saturday night with Theresa and Steve and saw Step Brothers, it was pretty funny! And then on Sunday we went to see Hellboy 2, i like this too. Really, there aren't to many movies that i don't like..hehe!

I have 7 more days of work here in this office...and about 2.5 hours of sick leave that i will have to use of lose...which means i have about 4.5 days of work for the DDS....woohoo!

This coming weekend...

We are having a party....we have an entire keg that hasn't been touch and we need some help...also, why not celebrate a new job! And it makes me clean the house!

Has anyone heard the new flight of the conchords CD? It is pretty funny...they have taken theirs songs and changed them up....so what you are used to singing at the top of your voice isn't quite the same....but you are able to make out the lyrics better...and lets face it....flight of the conchords lyrics are the best!

First we must welcome Julia into the world!! Sarah had her baby yesterday....a little girl...which surprised the hell out of me (i was sure it was going to be a boy). They decided not to find out what it was going to be....i am hoping to be able to do that...it think it would be an awesome surprise not to know! But also very, very hard....

Today...i'm turning in my 2.5 weeks notice! I'm a little nervous about it...what if something happens with the school or just whatever...even though i have signed a contract and all...but i have to do it anyway!!

So...we went and saw Ween a week ago this last Saturday....they were really awesome and they played for about 4 hours straight!! It was a little much for me...but that is not the point of this story...the point is when we got home we had no power in certian parts of our house....Cody and his dad decided the next day that the kitchen light was causing the breaker to trip...so we have not been using the overhead kitchen light. Yesterday...Cody and his dad put up a new light fixture in the kitchen and then hung a fan in the den....it is extremely funny to me how excited i get now about little home improvements!! It makes me very happy that I will not burn up everytime i'm in the den and that the house is looking more like Cody and I...In the week between jobs i'm planning on doing some painting.....i'm going to paint mainly just white in the hallways but i think it will make the house feel better!

AHHHH... the weekend.

So we have decided that we are going to go to Robbers Cave this weekend and do a little camping. It should be tons of fun. It doesn't look like its going to rain but we have panchos just in case. This is the only completely free weekend we have until the wedding...so we've decided to take advantage.

I found out two great things in the last couple of days....first...the drive in is opening back up on April 18th. Fun times at the drive in are a most of the summer. second...ween is playing at cains ballroom in July. Hell, yes...i'm so there!! Cody and i were just talking about how much we wanted to see ween live!

Next Friday Night....AT SAUCED...the stringents!! Grandpa Griffith was nice enough to let us open up for them. We've been trying to do that for a really long time...this time, its working out. We are excited and we will play about 9 pm. So check it out!

Is there anything else going on....lets see. Lots of wedding stuff. Cody's mom booked our flights and hotel to NYC. I'm really excited about that because we will be there for the 4th of July.

Right now i'm sitting at my desk...thinking i'm very ready to go home and the last hour of the day is ALWAYS the longest.

I hope everyones weekend is good and that i get to see everyone next week!! :)

I love orange juice

This is not my ode to OJ but i couldn't think of anything for a subject.

Monday, Josh took Cody and my engagement pictures...i'm excited to see them. We had a lot of fun....even Cody, who did seem like he was having fun at all. Engagement pictures are pretty much for girls anyway :) I know i said i wasn't going to talk about the wedding but one blog won't hurt. And if it makes you cringe please stop reading! :) We got our "concert tickets" yesterday, which i'm super pumped about. And then our wristband have been in for a while! I also bought my dress. It super pretty. But it doesn't come in until April :( I'm looking forward to everything, i think it is going to be loads of fun. woohoo! But i'm also very ready to stop planning and just have everything done.

Really, nothing much else is going on. Just trying to work (its hard sometimes)!

On another topic....we found a really good band through the paste magazine. They are called Architecture in Helsinki. They have a very different sounds. They begin one of their albums with a female vocal and i'm pretty sure a theremin. They use a lot of full orchestra sounds too. Its really cool! People should check it out. ALSO, in bigger news...radiohead has announced the US cities that will hit on their tour. Dallas and Houston being two of them. woohoo! :) I'm going to make sure to be on top of this so i can get tickets the day they come out so that i can get great seats!

Convesation starter

So being as it is the end of the year, all kinds of magazines and websites are telling us what the best music of 2007 is. This year has really surprised me with the great new CD that have come out. So i want people to tell me what they think is the best from this year.

Here is a list that Paste Magazine put out....Paste Top 100

And there are still more....like Andrew Birds album Armchair Apocrypha didn't make this list...although some other list had him on there!

Anyway, the point of this blog is not to see what the magazines and websites liked..its to see what my friends liked this year. So..

What was your favorite CD this year and why? If you have more than one that cool too! I have to put some more thought and listening into this question and then i'll get back with you guys :) I had kind of forgotten that some of these CD's came out this year! :) I'm sure most of you are suprised that i'm not immediately saying RADIOHEAD...but i'm trying to give other cd's a shot too! hehe!

Tonight...if you aren't busy....The Stringents Christmas Show at the Blue Door! Show starts at 8...and we will be playing some paint it black!! its really cool! :)

So either!

My bloglines isn't working really well, or no one is writing blogs these days :( i guess everyone, like myself, doesn't really have a lot to say. I will mention an upcoming show...not really because i am playing in it but because the band that we are playing with is REALLY good. Saturday night, at Galileos! not sure on the time...sometime after 9....the band is simple tree and they are good and everyone should check them out in some way!

Lets also remember that i turn 30 in 29 days! :) just making sure everyone remembers! it is a Friday and there will be a party happen at my house...my mother is even coming into town for the occasion. (that was supposed to be secret but my mother and i don't keep secrets very well!)

In Rainbows

So i'll be honest...i was a little worried on the first run through of this cd...but my first run through is usually just listening to about 15-30 seconds of all the songs before listening to it all the way through...thank goodness i tend to look past first impressions. This CD is excellent. I'm going to mention a few of my favorites here...i wish i could talk about all of them but i'd probably run out of things to say and i should probably actually work :(

"15 steps"- when i first heard the beginning of this song, i thought for sure radiohead had sold their souls to the electronic pop gods, which scared the hell out of me. But not 45 seconds pass before they introduce their awesome guitar play, jonny greenwood, adding his simple yet perfect guitar licks...and then not too far after that they turn up the bass part and start really rocking the song out...it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. some of the lyrics for this song just state "one by one" and its really funny how it kind of feels like that when they are introducing all the instruments throughout the entire song.

"Nude"- they keep this track simple for radiohead. :) and i really, really love how radiohead can express the lyrics of their song by their music. this song is called nude...the beginning of the song is just bass and drums and voice...no one is doing anything fancy...lyrically the song to me is talking about what is going on in most peoples minds, and how we have all felt at times. i do have a bass problem, i love bass parts and this one is no exception!

Weird Fishes/Arpeggi- so this song is FULL of arpeggios...pretty much the same one but they have two guitars all over the place just continually playing arpeggiated chords and they keep getting faster and faster and "i get eaten by the worms" then everything starts calming down.. what is kind of cool to me is that at some points it kind of sounds like you are floating underwater...yes, that does sound weird but you will just have to listen to it. maybe fish hear arpeggios?? :)

House of Cards- okay so this song just makes me want to dance around my house with a smile on my face. nothing overly exciting about it really...they have a lot of vocal echo and i'm really not sure what is going on in the back ground...it sounds like someone is tapping the bass or another guitar with a drum stick...which i guess is totally possible. i like has there is one guitar line that kind of goes throughout the entire song like its keeping everything together.

Across the Universe

So Cindy, Whitney and I went this weekend and saw Across the Universe...for those of you who may not know, this is a musical about the vietnam war using all beatles songs...it was AWESOME! they did such a good job of not ruining the songs and of caputuring the emotional stress that that time provided...on all levels. There were some visual parts that had you trying not to blink because you weren't sure if you would miss something! One of my FAVORITE scenes: one of the characters had been drafted and he went for his physical with several other people. The song they were sing was I want you (She's so Heavy)...when they get to the end of the exam all of the men are singing the very dramatic "She's so Heavy" part of the song and carrying the statue of liberty. My gosh, it still give me chills! i wanted to get up and start clapping! but i didn't :)

I think everyone needs to go see this movie...there is an underlying love story in there too...just fyi!! :)

Whitney and i started working out last night....and i'm not sure that i should be hurting from just walking a couple of miles...but i am and my hands are swollen...its funny how fast you can become out of shape...i'm also going to start playing girls soccer....cody and i would totally play co-ed too but we can't find a team so if anyone knows of one, please let us know! :)

I've started reading a book called "Lamb, the gospel according to Biff, Christ Childhood Pal" by Christopher Moore and its freakin funny. Has anyone read it?

one dilemmia for another

Jay...you are right..the white stripes have cancelled their tour so they are no long playing at ACL...which totally sucks ass...so they moved some bands around and they put muse and arcade fire at the same time!! WTF..that may have to be a half and half thing...and they also have wilco and my morning jacket at the same time...i like my morning jacket pretty well..but i don't know if i like them more than i like wilco. thanks mike and jay for your recommendations...i have marked them on my list and will make sure to check them out!

btw...i love this weather...it makes me happy, but it also makes me not want to work and i've kind of been slacking off today...oh well, what can you do :)

The weekend...

So i'm glad the weekend is over! not that it was a bad weekend but it was somewhat long and i'm tired! i hate getting to work on a monday morning after you should feel rested but you are more tired then when you left on Thursday night! :) So, this next weekend isn't going to be any better i'm sure...being as we are leaving on Thursday afternoon and not getting home until Monday night from ACL...i'm very very excited about this...okay, so i'm going to share with you the shows i will be at for sure:
Bela Fleck and the flecktones- i've seen them live before and they are great live. after seeing them live i went and got one of their cd's and it wasn't quite the same but is it ever. :)

Spoon- the new spoon album is pretty good.

Bjork- she is someone that i've been waiting to see live for a really, really long time. i can't even fathom what its going to be like!

Damien Rice- i'm a damien rice fan, but i go back and forth with listening to his albums...sometimes they sound all the same to me then other times, its just perfect for my mood. i do think that his latest album 9 is my favorite though...there are a few just killer songs on there...like elephant, coconut skins and me, my yoke and i...good stuff, has anyone heard it??

Andrew Bird- i can honestly say this is the one i'm most excited about...i've seen some of his shows on TV and on the internet and i just can't wait to see him live!

Muse- they are just good...

Okay, here is a toss up for me...i think i'm going to have to split my time between these two...Arcade Fire and the White Stripes....i hate when they do this....i'm thinking Arcade Fire may get more of my attention but the White Stripes, i've been wanting to see them...but if i had to pick which one i liked more musically it would be arcade fire...which one would you pick??

Sunday is the best day by far!

Yo La Tengo- i know not many of you like them...but i think everyone should give them another shot or listen to their latest album...they are good, i promise!

Fionn Regan- a while ago i blogged about him...his kind of singer songwriter and he has an awesome voice...very good stuff...as a matter of fact i may have put up a video

The National- a girl at work let me borrow this cd and its good...as a matter of fact i think i'll listen to it now :) she also let me listen to langhorne slim...has anyone heard them??? that is also some good stuff!

Ian Bell- from Gomez...i was a little disappointed when i didn't see gomez on the list...but then i just found out that at least one of gomez is going to be there and all was right with the world again!

Midlake- another one of those obsure bands that not many people have heard and the only reason i have was because of Chad Gulley but they are pretty good and i'm excited to see them live...live is always better!

Lucinda Williams- its just fun to see if she can make it through the entire show!

Wilco- Nothing more needs to be said about them...they just have an awesome show every time i see them and if you haven't heard the new album...you need too...(man, i'm coming up with all kinds of albums to talk about now :)

The Decemberists- there is a whole blog about them... :)

The we end with Bob Dylan...and honestly i have no idea what to expect here! :)

Has anyone heard or no anything about Joss Stone, Blonde Redheads, or MIA...i've actually heard of them..but don't know that i've actually heard them...Also, check out the ACL lineup and tell me if there is something that i should see!

Has anyone seen any of these bands? What were you thoughts?

I need your help

I'm in need of good "love/wedding" songs to put on a cd for an upcoming wedding shower i'm throwing...so far, i've got about 3 songs that i'm thinking about putting on there.

1. white wedding
2. all you need is love
3. just like heaven/or lovecats

i need about 7 more...i know that there are tons of "love" songs out there and right now i'm so tired i'm coming up with nothing good :( so any help you can give would be great!
