Convesation starter

So being as it is the end of the year, all kinds of magazines and websites are telling us what the best music of 2007 is. This year has really surprised me with the great new CD that have come out. So i want people to tell me what they think is the best from this year.

Here is a list that Paste Magazine put out....Paste Top 100

And there are still more....like Andrew Birds album Armchair Apocrypha didn't make this list...although some other list had him on there!

Anyway, the point of this blog is not to see what the magazines and websites liked..its to see what my friends liked this year. So..

What was your favorite CD this year and why? If you have more than one that cool too! I have to put some more thought and listening into this question and then i'll get back with you guys :) I had kind of forgotten that some of these CD's came out this year! :) I'm sure most of you are suprised that i'm not immediately saying RADIOHEAD...but i'm trying to give other cd's a shot too! hehe!

Tonight...if you aren't busy....The Stringents Christmas Show at the Blue Door! Show starts at 8...and we will be playing some paint it black!! its really cool! :)

i guess i should stop cursing! :)

What's New

Well, there is really nothing new here...but again i decided to write :) We lived through our double Turkey Day! I've never had two turkey dinner less than 3 hours apart. I was full...i'll just say that much :)

So as pretty much all of you know...i'm turning 30! And i'm sure all of you are wondering what my thoughts on turning 30 are...lol! Or maybe you aren't but i'm going to tell you anyway!

I'm truly excited about turning thirty...i'm sure most of you are thinking, "she's excited because she is getting married and really happy right now" and i say that that is right but i've been excited about turning 30 for a long while now. I don't really feel like i have anything more figured out than i did 5 years ago, but i've learned that i may never have it figured out and i've realized that its okay not too...i've wasted a lot of time worrying about things i can never change...or things that i haven't done yet...or getting everything right and why i'm not where i should be. Now, i'm realizing that you can worry all I want but it really does no good other than just makes me feel worse.

I've always pretty much been a people person...but it has hit me more and more these days how those connections are what matters. Friends and Family are going to be what matters in the hard times. Something else that i've had to learn, you can't please everyone...and if they are truly your friends that will love you regardless. I've caught myself worrying a lot about what people think of me...and its those time when i'm surprised to see that no one really cares about what i was worrying about and that they are supportive regardless...those are true friends. And the best part about turning 30 (and probably the cheesiest) is that i have the best friends anyone could possibly ask for! Thank you guys! :)

Old NES

so cody went to his parents old house and got some of his old school stuff...such as his old NES, with several games. this is great for me because about the only games i know how to play are from that system. so we hooked it up and it still works...you still have to blow on the game some to get them to work but it just like the good ol' days :) So on this past 4 day weekend i have been playing some zelda! heck yes...its been fun but i get frustrated when i get to the main monster in the castle and have no life left or can't remember how to beat him....oh, well, i guess that is part of the fun!:) i'm looking for adventure island...that was my favorite game back in the day! I was totally going to get Cody a Wii for Christmas...you can't find them...so i guess that will have to wait!!

i only have 2.5 days of work this week. woohoo! we got monday off for veterans day and then we get friday off for Statehood day! who knew! :)

Thursday night at the Red Cup...The Stringents! We start at 8:00pm! :) We are also trying to set the date for our Christmas show...which everyone should come to...that is fun times!

and again i will say that i'm turning 30 in 17 days and everyone should come to the partae! :)

So either!

My bloglines isn't working really well, or no one is writing blogs these days :( i guess everyone, like myself, doesn't really have a lot to say. I will mention an upcoming show...not really because i am playing in it but because the band that we are playing with is REALLY good. Saturday night, at Galileos! not sure on the time...sometime after 9....the band is simple tree and they are good and everyone should check them out in some way!

Lets also remember that i turn 30 in 29 days! :) just making sure everyone remembers! it is a Friday and there will be a party happen at my house...my mother is even coming into town for the occasion. (that was supposed to be secret but my mother and i don't keep secrets very well!)

In Rainbows

So i'll be honest...i was a little worried on the first run through of this cd...but my first run through is usually just listening to about 15-30 seconds of all the songs before listening to it all the way through...thank goodness i tend to look past first impressions. This CD is excellent. I'm going to mention a few of my favorites here...i wish i could talk about all of them but i'd probably run out of things to say and i should probably actually work :(

"15 steps"- when i first heard the beginning of this song, i thought for sure radiohead had sold their souls to the electronic pop gods, which scared the hell out of me. But not 45 seconds pass before they introduce their awesome guitar play, jonny greenwood, adding his simple yet perfect guitar licks...and then not too far after that they turn up the bass part and start really rocking the song out...it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. some of the lyrics for this song just state "one by one" and its really funny how it kind of feels like that when they are introducing all the instruments throughout the entire song.

"Nude"- they keep this track simple for radiohead. :) and i really, really love how radiohead can express the lyrics of their song by their music. this song is called nude...the beginning of the song is just bass and drums and voice...no one is doing anything fancy...lyrically the song to me is talking about what is going on in most peoples minds, and how we have all felt at times. i do have a bass problem, i love bass parts and this one is no exception!

Weird Fishes/Arpeggi- so this song is FULL of arpeggios...pretty much the same one but they have two guitars all over the place just continually playing arpeggiated chords and they keep getting faster and faster and "i get eaten by the worms" then everything starts calming down.. what is kind of cool to me is that at some points it kind of sounds like you are floating underwater...yes, that does sound weird but you will just have to listen to it. maybe fish hear arpeggios?? :)

House of Cards- okay so this song just makes me want to dance around my house with a smile on my face. nothing overly exciting about it really...they have a lot of vocal echo and i'm really not sure what is going on in the back ground...it sounds like someone is tapping the bass or another guitar with a drum stick...which i guess is totally possible. i like has there is one guitar line that kind of goes throughout the entire song like its keeping everything together.

Across the Universe

So Cindy, Whitney and I went this weekend and saw Across the Universe...for those of you who may not know, this is a musical about the vietnam war using all beatles songs...it was AWESOME! they did such a good job of not ruining the songs and of caputuring the emotional stress that that time provided...on all levels. There were some visual parts that had you trying not to blink because you weren't sure if you would miss something! One of my FAVORITE scenes: one of the characters had been drafted and he went for his physical with several other people. The song they were sing was I want you (She's so Heavy)...when they get to the end of the exam all of the men are singing the very dramatic "She's so Heavy" part of the song and carrying the statue of liberty. My gosh, it still give me chills! i wanted to get up and start clapping! but i didn't :)

I think everyone needs to go see this movie...there is an underlying love story in there too...just fyi!! :)

Days like today

I'm tired and i'm irritable. I knew today was going to be a little on the rough side because we have a lot changes going on at work today...i've been taken away from my secure home...the place that i felt safe and thrown into the open waters where i know no one and i have no one but myself to rely on...so it seems right now! i know it will get better but right now i'm ready to go home! okay enough bitching...

so this weekend cody and i decide we are going to go to breakfast on Saturday morning...we live right down the street from a Jimmy's egg so we decide we are going to walk there. we get there and we see that they only take cash or checks (very weird these days) of which we had neither...so we go back home and get in the car to go to a little new coffee shop on 16th. we get there and we go inside to order and they didn't have breakfast like we were wanting but it was about lunch time anyway so we decided we would order sandwiches. cody tried to order and we were told that the bread hadn't arrived for the day so they couldn't make us sandwiches and it would be about 30 to 45 minutes...so we order an expensive cheese plate and teas and wait for the bread. it was lovely outside so we head outside as we sit down and put our teas on the table...the table collapses and we get tea ALL OVER US! so we laugh it off because by this time its just funny...and move to the other outside table. eventually the bread came and we got the rest of our food for free but it was one of those days :) lol! :)

one dilemmia for another

Jay...you are right..the white stripes have cancelled their tour so they are no long playing at ACL...which totally sucks ass...so they moved some bands around and they put muse and arcade fire at the same time!! WTF..that may have to be a half and half thing...and they also have wilco and my morning jacket at the same time...i like my morning jacket pretty well..but i don't know if i like them more than i like wilco. thanks mike and jay for your recommendations...i have marked them on my list and will make sure to check them out!

btw...i love this weather...it makes me happy, but it also makes me not want to work and i've kind of been slacking off today...oh well, what can you do :)

The weekend...

So i'm glad the weekend is over! not that it was a bad weekend but it was somewhat long and i'm tired! i hate getting to work on a monday morning after you should feel rested but you are more tired then when you left on Thursday night! :) So, this next weekend isn't going to be any better i'm sure...being as we are leaving on Thursday afternoon and not getting home until Monday night from ACL...i'm very very excited about this...okay, so i'm going to share with you the shows i will be at for sure:
Bela Fleck and the flecktones- i've seen them live before and they are great live. after seeing them live i went and got one of their cd's and it wasn't quite the same but is it ever. :)

Spoon- the new spoon album is pretty good.

Bjork- she is someone that i've been waiting to see live for a really, really long time. i can't even fathom what its going to be like!

Damien Rice- i'm a damien rice fan, but i go back and forth with listening to his albums...sometimes they sound all the same to me then other times, its just perfect for my mood. i do think that his latest album 9 is my favorite though...there are a few just killer songs on there...like elephant, coconut skins and me, my yoke and i...good stuff, has anyone heard it??

Andrew Bird- i can honestly say this is the one i'm most excited about...i've seen some of his shows on TV and on the internet and i just can't wait to see him live!

Muse- they are just good...

Okay, here is a toss up for me...i think i'm going to have to split my time between these two...Arcade Fire and the White Stripes....i hate when they do this....i'm thinking Arcade Fire may get more of my attention but the White Stripes, i've been wanting to see them...but if i had to pick which one i liked more musically it would be arcade fire...which one would you pick??

Sunday is the best day by far!

Yo La Tengo- i know not many of you like them...but i think everyone should give them another shot or listen to their latest album...they are good, i promise!

Fionn Regan- a while ago i blogged about him...his kind of singer songwriter and he has an awesome voice...very good stuff...as a matter of fact i may have put up a video

The National- a girl at work let me borrow this cd and its good...as a matter of fact i think i'll listen to it now :) she also let me listen to langhorne slim...has anyone heard them??? that is also some good stuff!

Ian Bell- from Gomez...i was a little disappointed when i didn't see gomez on the list...but then i just found out that at least one of gomez is going to be there and all was right with the world again!

Midlake- another one of those obsure bands that not many people have heard and the only reason i have was because of Chad Gulley but they are pretty good and i'm excited to see them live...live is always better!

Lucinda Williams- its just fun to see if she can make it through the entire show!

Wilco- Nothing more needs to be said about them...they just have an awesome show every time i see them and if you haven't heard the new album...you need too...(man, i'm coming up with all kinds of albums to talk about now :)

The Decemberists- there is a whole blog about them... :)

The we end with Bob Dylan...and honestly i have no idea what to expect here! :)

Has anyone heard or no anything about Joss Stone, Blonde Redheads, or MIA...i've actually heard of them..but don't know that i've actually heard them...Also, check out the ACL lineup and tell me if there is something that i should see!

Has anyone seen any of these bands? What were you thoughts?

I need your help

I'm in need of good "love/wedding" songs to put on a cd for an upcoming wedding shower i'm throwing...so far, i've got about 3 songs that i'm thinking about putting on there.

1. white wedding
2. all you need is love
3. just like heaven/or lovecats

i need about 7 more...i know that there are tons of "love" songs out there and right now i'm so tired i'm coming up with nothing good :( so any help you can give would be great!

80's song vault

Okay continuing my music talk, this morning as i was driving to work i was trying to think of what a good cd would be to mention today. But in look through my i-pod i've decided that i was going to pick a song. Sweet Dreams (are made of these) by the eurythmics. I love this song, and i don't think i know anyone that really doesn't like this song. Why is that? What makes this song greater than any other 80's song? I don't think it the cello's in the video...to be honest until i just watched it i did remember that they had cellos in the video..Does anyone know anyone that hates the song? So i was thinking what are other songs by the eurythmics....Here comes the rain again....that seems to be the only other song i can really remember by them. and in listening to their other song on youtube videos, there were several songs that i couldn't listen to at all, they were just aweful...which i then realized the eurythmics really aren't a very good band. So, what made sweet dream the lasting one? hmmm...???

So in other news....cody got himself locked out of the house last night while i was at a birthday dinner! :) hehe! it was really pretty funny. we have those locks like a lot of classroom doors. you press the little button on the top and it keeps the door locked so that when you shut it you don't have to worry about locking it...and if you press the button on the bottom it unlocks the door knob so that you can walk in and out freely. Most houses don't have this anymore and neither of us are used to it. i knew one of us would eventually lock ourselves out and im glad it was him first! :)

stealing amandas idea! :)

I've decided that i'm going to steal amandas idea (check out her blog at a book is a garden) try to start discussions on music that i'm listening to or have listened to or just really like. I will also throw in my life because thats just what i do! (amanda i hope you don't mind :)

So, I am going to start out with a cd that came out a while ago but that i feel has really made me respect this band more. I've enjoyed them for a long time and their concert that i have seen was really good (even though i couldn't see anything because it was so crowded). The CD is the cranes wife by the decemberist. track 2 "The Island-come & See/the landlord's daughter/you'll not feel the drowning is a freakin flippin long song something like 12-14 minutes...but it is amazing. the builds and how they use the organ kills me (in a good way) everytime! :) I personally think its their best album yet and can't wait to see them again. Here is a youtube video of one of the songs on the album.
So..
Has anyone listened to the album? What did you think? Did you think it was the best album they have done? If not, what do you feel is their best album and why? Have you seen them live and what was your thoughts?

The final frontier

i probably got all of the star trek fans wondering what i'm going to write about but...it has nothing to do with star trek! :)

we got moved! okay, we got most everything moved. there are little things that we have to get from each place but the apartment will be offically moved out of tomorrow. thank goodness! we spent most of yesterday afternoon and evening cleaning. and thats when we realized, that we had a lot of condiments but no food! :) so we had to hit the grocery store so that we won't be eating out. and we have acl this month...two weeks from Friday!! woohoo! :)i'm even more excited realizing that it is sooo close! :)

the one great thing about moving is the not knowing where anything is....wheres the check book, wheres the cds for the party, where's cat food...for that matter, where's the cat! i am so ready to have everything in order! (btw, the cats not really lost...she is in the house somewhere and she makes herself seen every now and then! :)

anyway, things are going well and we will have people over very soon!!

Also, this thursday night at the uco jazz lab...
lisa curl and the triplets
7:30 show
$7 cover
and i think we will be doing a live recording.

A friend at work

so i was talk to a friend that i work with and we were talking about the strange and weird things that go through our heads...and we got on the discussion of drive-thrus...we think it would be funny to go up to the speaker and tell them that you want them to order for you, just make sure its only around $5 and no tomatos :) i wonder if they would actually do that...and how bad that could freak out some workers... :)

i did say we were talking about the weirdness of our thoughts! :)

I'm ready to leave work now! :)

Garage Door Opener!! :)

Yeap...i've officially got my first garage door opener. This is exciting stuff for me!! :) So needless to say, i've been pretty busy! which is not unusual but it seems to be busier these days then usual. I think we are going to move some this weekend, but most of the big stuff we won't be moving until next weekend...so if anyone is free, there is pizza and beer involved! :) I go this morning after work and let the bug guy in to debug our house....and then i think i'm going to start moving my stuff out of whitneys!! :) Nothing like moving in 100 degree weather :)

last night lisa and i played at mickey mantels during their happy hour. thats a fun little gig. no one is really listening and there are tons of people there and we just pretty much get to have a open rehearsal! :) Oh yes, most of you probably got the e-mail about us trying to get to austin for austin city limits. so please vote, we have until monday. we are currently in the top 100 but we have to stay there. round 2 are judges, they will pick 20 of the top 100 and then those will get voted on again. if we get in the top 20 you will for sure be hearing from me again...probably several times! you can vote once a day...and i personally vote on all 5 of my e-mail address....and i know several other people that are doing that as well! Please Vote Here :)

we saw an awesome movie the other night...we decided to go to the movies the night before the house closing and we went to see stardust. its based on the young adult book by neil gaiman...it was so so good! its a love story but a good love story :)

i have become more nerdy. i know, i also thought that wasn't possible, but it has happened. we have started getting comic books...it all started for me when i found out they are continuing the buffy series through comic books picking up were the show left off! so now i'm in to all sorts of story lines....one i found the other day though was a vampire comic about a "slayer" called Anita Blake...well, come to find out it was based on a book series. So we went out and i bought the book and finished it yesterday and if you like vampire stories it was really good. cody likes to laugh at me because i like to read vampire things so much but we each have our things right.

a good site, girly band practice and other things :)

so something that is really fun is girly band practice...i've only really had band practice with tons of guys or co-ed...but an all girl band practice is great. first, they listen to what you say and they actually try it and don't pass your ideas off as stupid from the start! :) we can talk A LOT but still get a lot of practicing done too...which i know, is somewhat of a surprise to some! :) and we talk about things that girls talk about...life girly issues...its good times.

also, thank you so much mike for your support of my music this weekend. it means a lot to me.

okay, i don't know if all of you know how cody and i met...and if you do you can skip this part and i promise i'm not going to get to girly here....but i feel like i should put a plug in for all of those who are looking for someone. we met on match.com...i know i know..."an internet site that supported by dr phil"...most of you are probably saying...i don't think so, and for a while i did too, but i thought...what the hell, at least i can meet new people if all else fails. and let me know tell you, meet new people i did. i probably went on 10 first dates...and it was somewhat dis-heartening when none of them really never called back. but i decided to keep going. there was even one guy who i thought was it...he was the one for me, a musician and he was totally into me (and we actually went out more than once in one weekend but it didn't last more than that weekend) and i was heart broken when it wasn't him. but i kept going out with people and talking to them through e-mail. i actually talked to cody for about a month through e-mail before he got the nerve up to ask me out. after the first meeting i wasn't really convinced. i thought, well, if he asks me out again, i'll go but i really wasn't that into him. so he asked me out a week later and we've been together ever since...there was a point that i told some friends, that i was giving him 30 days and if i didn't feel any different than i was going to tell him....well, its been nearly six months now and we will be together for many, many years to come and all because of match, and i love my cello carrier :)...so there is my story. :)
(btw, cody doesn't know the part about me giving him 30 days...so lets not mention it! hehe!)

more flight of the conchords...i'm obessed!

I'm getting to old

Yeah...so i had a day like my old college days last night and i'm realizing that i'm getting to old for things like this! :) I went to work like normal....straight from work to play a wedding (yes, a wedding on a Thursday...i guess its cheaper)...then i went straight from there to my gig at the blue note, which i didn't get home from until about 1...then i had to turn around and start this whole work thing over again! Dear goodness...how did i do that all the time i will never, ever know. I love, love, love playing music but i think i'm going to have to limit my late Thursday night shows! And thank you so much to mike for coming out and supporting the new music that i'm starting to help create...i just hope youll come back sometime! :) hehe! :) So now...i work for a few hours, then go home and take a nap and then get up and start playing more music! Again i say, i'm not complaining in th least, its just that i'm not used to this any more!

I will tell everyone something about what makes work go faster....Video I-Pods...and flight of the conchords on youtube! :) Thanks!

Anyway, if anyone is interested in the drive in tomorrow night, let me know! :) We are still going! :)

News on the roof! :)

It looks like we have gotten everything with the roof figured out...we even picked out roof colors last night! hooray! :) Its amazing the stuff you start thinking about when you are buying a house....you start paying attention to roofs, and what color they are...and how long they are going to last! its crazy, crazy stuff....so we close 2 weeks from yesterday. i got to thinking about that the other day and realize....HOLY SHIT...i've got about 3 weeks to pack stuff. Cody doesn't seem to be worried in the least about it...which is totally a guy thing i think but thats why you guys need women, to get things like this done :) hehe! just kidding! We aren't actually going to move until the weekend of the 24th.

The Roof!

Well, things are working themselves out! woohoo! there is a roof plan of action and the closing date looks to be the same...so that is one less stress. a lot of things are working themselves out lately, which is great...hopefully i will get to order my wheels in the next couple of days, so that i can get my car fixed so that i can drive it again. woohoo...theres nothing like paying an ass load of money a month for a car that you can't even drive! :) but alas...it will get done :)

Coming up this week!

Lisa and the triplets (thats our actual band name :) are playing the blue note Thursday night! I'm thinking show starts at 9 but i can't honestly remember

The Stringents and Carrie Webber this Friday night at Galileos....should be a good show! i think Carrie and Sarah are going to start at about 9...stringents will probably go on about 10.

This weekends events!

So what did we do this weekend?

Friday night we went to Tulsa to D-fest. We saw Carrie Webber w/ Sarah, and the KC Clifford...then we went and saw the Flaming Lips....it was a really good show....I love waynes idea on life! love EVERYONE....it makes more sense to me than anything else...

Saturday we went to lyric theatre and saw singing in the rain...i really liked that a lot...i had never seen it or the movie for that matter and it was really, really good. I really want to learn to tap dance now though :)

Then, the stringents played at Earlywine park. It was a lot of fun...i've missed playing music with those girls...it was a good show! :) and we are playing with carrie webber on Friday night at Galileos! :)

Another show that everyone should come see....Lisa, Reyna and I will be playing the Blue Note on Thursday....not sure on the time but i will let you know!

Also, we have some roof problems with the house! :( I think everything is going to be okay but its just a little stressful right now (really for cody but i get a little stressed when he is stressed)...we've got people coming out today to give estimates...we are thinking that the owners of the house now will take care of most of it...but its going to be really expensive because it has 3 layers of roof! insurance companies wouldn't cover that so it has to be fixed in order to get the loan...its great fun! :) Hopefully we will still be able to close on the 15th!

It is drive in movie time again...we are going to go next Saturday...not sure what is playing yet....in the paper it was license to wed (which i don't really care about seeing), harry potter, and die hard...it could change between now and Saturday though so don't count on those three...but for $5 its good times...i'll be sending out an e-mail or you can e-mail me! :)

oh sweet

so last night we were supposed to go see Singin' in the rain....we were out to eat with his mom and some of her friends and i got a migraine...couldn't see, felt sick to my stomach, head throbbing migraine...wasn't going to be able to eat or go see the show...my sweet boyfriend took me home and took care of me...brought me cold wash clothes to put on my head and made sure that there was little sound and little light...he's a good guy that cody! today, i'm feeling better although i'm feeling mighty loopy! (yes, i know...i know...i'm always loopy)

they just did the house inspection and i'm at work...i don't know how anything went but i'm headed there after i get off here, which is soon...very very soon!

work and other things

So, we are up for our one year reviews...and already there is at least one person who won't be joining us again after about 30 days. it somewhat freaks me out...but i'm not going to worry about it. we also were supposed to get a raise this month...that also doesn't look like it is going to happen, which sucks because i am truly needing that this month. Today, we go to the distract social secruity office. We are going to watch the people on the other side of the claims that are sent to us, how they are processed etc. It should be pretty interesting, especially because that is what cody does only in chickasha. So, it should be fun!

Tomorrow is inspection day...not really sure how all of that works. I have to work tomorrow so i won't be there but i guess we find out tomorrow how it all goes!

Also tomorrow....D-fest in Tulsa...the Flaming Lips play tomorrow night and then Starlight Mints play Saturday. Tickets are still on sell and only $20. Thats a pretty damn good price for 2 days of shows.

So, i know what you are thinking...you have books that you want to buy but you don't want to pay full price for them...well, check out my amazon bookstore...thats right, i'm selling books on amazon and i'm going to be adding some dvd's too. i may post my dvd's on here first to see if anyone wants to buy them before i put them on amazon. jenn's amazon store okay, i'm going to try to get something done this morning! :)

The end of a lot of things!

First, we will miss Grandpa Griffith as it is ...but know that it is for the better good that these things happen. Being in a couple of bands that have broken up i know that it is not worth going through the motions if you aren't happy. It doesn't make the music good and the tension in the band causes problems all around. Its just great that the friends that were created before the band will be able to still be intact....to me that is what matters in life most, friendships! (btw, i do have pictures from the show that will be posted on my GG pic page soon!)

Second, the end of harry potter! the book was great! i'm not going to go into great detail at the moment other than that because i know several of you haven't read it and are planning too. there are sad parts and there are parts that you cry because they are just so great...but overall, i think this was a great ending to a great series and i feel like a part of me is missing...i'm not sure how i'm going to fill that hole. :( but alas, i can still re-read them and then when i have kids that can be their bed time stories! :)

Thursday and Friday of this last week i worked at camp shiloh...they needed someone to fill in so i went and helped. i love that camp...it makes me happy and i think they do great things for kids that great things don't happen very often. kids that need help and that not just a week at camp will be able to help. example...i was put in the discipline tent on friday afternoon. these kids were talking about thinking it was funny to hurt people. that watching people fall when you hit them was funny. one of these kids was talking about someone that he saw getting shot not to long ago. as i was watching this kid (who had to at least be 11, maybe older) i noticed he still sucked his thumb. that is his security. i wish there was some easy way to help these kids and their families...

We have the inspection for the house this friday....hopefully everything goes okay.

snape is good!

Okay...obviously i'm getting really really excited about the next and last harry potter book! so today i've been reading some theories for book 7 and have a few of my own...so i'm going to share them with all of my blog friends :)

1. as my subject states, i don't believe snape is working for voldemort...i think that dumbledore convinced snape to kill him for some reason...

2. and the reason that i'm beginning to like for his killing dumbledore is that dumbledore has put some sort of protection over harry by dying....something like what lillie did.

3. i don't think harry is going to die (although according to cody that would be the only way to make a GREAT book, i sometimes think he smokes stuff when i'm not around :) although i do believe that ron or hermonie dies and that just makes me extremely upset so i'm not thinking about it!

4. i think dracos mom (narcissa) will give up her life for draco's life

5. neville will avenge his parents by killing bellatrix lestrange, jkr uses the sympathy card to much when talking about neville for him not to avenge his parents

6. dumbledore is dead but is not gone, he will come back weather its in portraits of himself or as a ghost but he will help out harry somehow (even jkr said something about she was having a hard time with fitting dumbledore in the writting of the 7th book)

7. harry is not a horcrux and neither is neville (this theory just seems really absurd to me :) (but the fact that i'm writing out theories for an upcoming harry potter book is pretty absurd too :)

8. draco will have a chance to kill harry, ron or hermonie and won't do it, abandoning the dark side, but i don't think he will come straight over to the good side :)

9. pettigrew (wormtail) owes his life to harry and will somehow repay that

10. harry doesn't have enough knowledge to kills voldemort by himself...there is going to have to be someone that will help him.

i tend not to care about the "relationship" and wedding stuff...so i'm really good with whatever happens there.

i do have a question though...jkr states that there are two main characters that die in the 7th book....what is her definition of a main character i wonder...i think most people are thinking it will be two from harry, ron, hermonie and hagrid...i agree that those are important main character but we know that either voldemort or harry have to die...so there is one out of the way....and really the other main character can be from the "dark side"...lucious and draco malfoy are just as main character as hargid in my book....

THIS IS A SPOILER page that i believe is totally wrong but i'm posting here anyway :) spoiler

and guess what...a theme park

never say never

i'm sure that there will be more harry potter to come this week as we get closer to the book... :) and i've had A LOT of free time today, being as the computer system at work in on the fritz, i'm bored out of my mind though! :)

woohoo!

the offer was accepted! :)

The House

Still don't know anything but i thought i would put a picture...just because :)

Whats been happening! :)

So...its been a few days since i've really posted anything and a ton has happened...first...I think that the 5th harry potter movie was the best of the movies so far! Yes, it did leave things out...yes, it did change some things around but i think it got most of the points from the book across and did it much better than the other movies...my mother thinks it was somewhat dark but the whole 5th book is somewhat dark so what can you expect...i'm truly excited for Friday...the last book for the harry potter series (for now anyway :)....i've got my on reserve at Borders and we are planning on going to the ball :) we aren't actually going to dress up for the ball but whatever...we are making shirts :) which will give me something else to waste time doing today.

Lisa and I also played the Woody Gutherie festival this weekend....it was awesome...first the show was great, we had a really good set. Then, although, i'm new to the folk world, it is so much different....they are really laid back and cool and all these amazing musicians are walking around just chilling, talking music stuff...there is no feeling that even though you are not a headliner that you aren't important to music too...its was just great. the little town of okemah is prefect too...you have your couple of bars that are played at and a little theatre (they did most of the large shows there because of all the rain). As a musician you get kind of treated as royality...you get free food all weekend...you get special attention when you need something, but only if you have the badge on... :) Then although i didn't get to stay...all the musician then jam at all hours of the night in the motel parking lot...forming little groups and it just doesn't matter if you are a little know musician or a headlining one...everyone is pretty much just all about the music...it is extrememly awesome! :)

Then, lastly but for sure not leastly...cody put a offer on a house last night...its in the miller addition and its extremely cute...we should know probably later today if they will take the offer or counter offer...cody is A LOT nervous about it...but he has things in his favor...it is very exciting stuff...if all goes well he will be closing on the house Aug 15th. we will have a house warming party maybe around halloween :) hehe! :)

A girls guide to floating the illinois river...by tori :)

Yesterday, I had the most amazingly fun time floating the Illinois River with my Oklahoma girlies. I can't wait to do it again next year! I will post pictures as soon as I can, but until then, here's a guide to having your own super amazing fun time on the Illinois River with YOUR girls:

1. Gather a group of girlfriends that you get along with really well...this is important because you will need "Girl Power" several times throughout your day.

2. Wear flip-flops. They will come off easier in the water, be carried away much more easily by currents, and be more likely to float away should your raft begin to take on water.

3. Pack lots of snacks and drinks. Be sure to bring at least two lunch-bag size coolers. They will come in handy during your trip.

4. Play the Name Game on the drive to the river. This will serve as a great distraction for your driver! It's also so fun to play that you won't even care (or maybe not even notice) if you get sort of lost on the way. (You might end up hating a particular letter of the alphabet, but it's worth it).

5. Listen carefully to the teenage boy who drives you to your float point. He will have important information to impart about the fork in the river (the most important of which he will omit). Discuss with your friends the embarrassing fact that, had all of you been in your teens and not your late twenties/early thirties, you would probably have thought your guide was hot.

6. Scream a lot or laugh uncontrollably when you get close to tangles of fallen trees, large rocks, or scary things protruding from the banks. It makes them go away faster.

7. If you run out of conversation while floating, continue playing the Name Game (use the order you were seated in the car, NOT the order you are seated in the raft) and or start playing Alphabet Game until you think of more things to talk about. The topic of the Alphabet Game should be "Bands & Singers."

8. If dragonflies try to land on your leg or ankle for mating purposes, allow your friends who have paddles to hit you with the paddles in order to shoo the dragonflies off.

9. Use the bathroom at each campground/beach area at which you stop. It will make every non-campground bathroom you use seem like facilities fit for royalty.

10. If you are not paddling, try to help your friends who ARE paddling by kicking in the water with your feet and trying to push off of algae-slime-covered logs with your hands. They will appreciate your efforts!

11. When your raft becomes lodged on a tangle of logs and branches and begins to take on water, scream even louder or laugh even more uncontrollably than you did when merely floating by logs & branches. This will help lighten the mood and dislodge your raft more quickly. Also make sure that at least one person moves the most important thing in the raft, the waterproof bag containing cameras & cellphones, to the side of the raft that isn't taking on water.

12. Once you get your raft dislodged, use empty lunchbag-sized coolers to bail water from the raft.

13. When you reach the fork in the river, take your raft to the beach area and dump out the remaining water. Try to decide if you are indeed supposed to go to the right, like the teenager told you, or if you should go to the left.

14. Let other floaters go to the right while you sit in half on the bank, half in the water and enjoy the cooling effect. Search for nifty river stones while you watch them carry their canoes and rafts to their impending deaths. Determine that when your guide said "There will be a log, but it's mostly underwater, so you'll just float over it," he really meant that you'd have to carry your raft through shallow water and some stony beach areas.

15. When carrying your raft through shallow water on the way to the other side of the fork, use a log covered in spiders to brace yourself if the current is too strong. Try dumping water on the spiders to make them go away. Stop dumping water on the spiders when one of your friends informs you that they're water spiders.

16. After you get through the final fork, you will encounter slow-moving water. Have your friends who are paddling whirl your raft around in circles so that it takes longer to finish.

17. When you're finished, consider asking the people who own the raft place if they'll let you float again for $20.

18. Finish your float trip by swimming in the pool at the raft place. Take lots of pictures with the concrete dragon that decorates the perimeter of the pool, and plan to use them for your Myspace default pic.

19. After packing up the van, drive to the nearest Braums (at the suggestion from the girl from out-of-state) and eat dinner. Enjoy hamburgers made with two bottom buns, hamburgers made with two top buns, hamburgers made upside down and soaked in mustard, AND limeade that's made with no syrup.

20. Drive home in a torrential downpour. It makes the ride home much more interesting! Take pictures of the storm from the van window.

21. End the day with plans to repeat the trip again next summer, but next time do the whole day trip and stay over in a cabin!!

This trip was so hysterically fun, and I truly can't wait to do it again. Despite what this list makes it seem, floating the river yesterday was so relaxing and it was great to hang out with the girls and just not worry about anything for a few hours.

HARRY POTTER

Was AWESOME!! i didn't really care for the 5th book much but i LOVED the movie...it was for sure worth getting to the theatre at 8 o'clock last night and sitting in line for 2.5 hours, eating hot pickles (pictures on the way) :) i did have good company....though! :) and then the fam showed up to continue the harry potter family traditions of our midnight harry potter! :) oh exciting stuff...i'm currently listening to the 6th book...before the 7th book...which will be another great mid-night event oh so soon.... :) I didn't dress up last night but i'm going to (or at least make a shirt) for the book! :) The pickle pictures will come up soon...i'm also going to post some pictures of our float trip shortly...good time...and i'll post my friend toris myspace blog about the float trip so everyone will know! :)

I am a NERD

but there are a lot more nerdy people than me...and a little bit on the insane side! Yes, i am going to see harry potter tonight at mid-night...with some equally nerdy family and friends...BUT i called to see what time would be good to come stand in line and was told that there were already 20 people in line...WTF....20 people already in line to see harry potter...i guess i'm not as die hard a fan as i thought...although i am really excited and am going to the mid-night showing! :)

anyway..on a more fun note...we had a girls fun trip floating yesterday...go to science vixens myspace blog to see the very accurate account of the trip....fun fun time...i recommend taking a bunch of friends and spending a day at the river...

also, lisa and i are back from dallas...it was awesome and fun show. our first road trip was successful! hooray...well, my car may never be the same again...okay so that an over exageration...the car will work again after i get new wheels and tires...yeap...more tire problems...custom wheels are a pain in the ass...just FYI! :)

i will fill you in tomorrow on the greatness of harry potter :)

Thursday, June 28, 2007

So...Sunday night is HBO night for cody and i....there are two shows on HBO right now that we are really into...first is john from cincinati, the basic concept is about family of famous surfers...they start experiencing some weird things, such as the grandfather starts floating in the air, the grandfathers son is a big druggy and is off and having no side effects...then there is the little boy who broke his neck and was pretty much dead in just a few hours is healed and walks out of the hospital...and then last but not least is john...and i can't even explain this character...we are thinking that he is an angel but has no common sense at all and act very mental retarded but has whatever anyone needs....i recommend watching it if you have HBO....

okay, this next show is just fucking funny....its called flight of the conchords and it just reminds me of a musical office...a band of two guys that are trying to make it and their music is somewhat like they might be giant...and its just funny funny shit....i guess they stand up comdians too :) Heres a video of them at a show but not on the actual HBO show...just make it to the binary solo :) when it comes out on DVD...we will own it! :)

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

I am so ready to go home...i've worked my ass off all day and still feel like i've gotten nothing accomplished but now...i'm mentally done...that pretty much happens to me about 4:00 each day. This week is national disablility professionals week....who knew! No one...i'm sure its just something that was made up. But because of this made up week...we are getting many perks...we've been getting free food so far and then tomorrow we get movie time! At this point i'm just going to go to get away from my always ringing phone!

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

I've changed my work schedule...i've decided that its really not to my benefit at the moment to have Fridays off...yes, i know what you are all thinking, that i'm smoking something and what i could say to that is "i wish"...hehe! :) But no, having Fridays off has caused me major headaches on Monday...all the Friday work piles up and it seems like all claimant disasters happen that day....i will only have to work 4 hours on friday and still have my afternoon off. And i really wasn't making it to work on time most days anyway....and today, i was actually early for my new schedule so hopefully it will stay that way.

Thats really the excitement in my life at the moment...i now! truly exciting...actually, it looks like the lancaster sound may be getting back together at least to create another cd...and who knows what will come from that. Knowing those guys probably not much of anything but i'm going to play anyway. Okay, i guess there is more going on than i really think....July 6th..i'm going to be going to dallas with lisa curl to open up for the father of natalie from the dixie chicks....its the little things! It should be pretty fun and good contact time!

Some upcoming Jenn shows:

Thursday June 14th at the Starbucks on Western stage...the stringents i think we play from 8-9, i'll check for sure though

Thursday July 5th at Pearls Lakeside with Lisa Curl, time TBA

Friday July 6th with Lisa in Dallas

Friday July 13th Woody Guthrie festival with Lisa Curl at 12:30 in the afternoon

Sunday July 29th the Stringents at Earlywine Park, Arts Council Twilight Series 6:30-7:20

I'll post my august dates at a later time...surely i'll have more august dates. The Stringents June and July dates are kind of limited...sarah is going to travel europe so won't be here to play! :)

And i believe, Grandpa Griffith is playing:

June 16th VZD's 10:00 PM

July 21st Galileos 10:00 PM

Sept 22nd State Fair 8:00 PM

And, a band called simple tree:

June 28th Othello's in Norman 8:00 PM

Currently thats all i have....as for shows...quite a good line up of good music! :)

Thursday, June 07, 2007

i wonder if all my blogs are posting...i've just looked at my blog from work and it looks like they aren't showing up....hmmm...i guess i will just have to check them again.

i'm going to just add to sweet ts comment about friends. its is kind of upsetting when you support people and what they do and you think you have a close knit group and then you find out that maybe its not close knit at all....or maybe you are not wanted anymore. although everyone has started going and doing other things and lives are moving around a lot, it kind of hurts when you aren't invited to the important things! Alas, i am done with this blog also....

my grandpa was taken to the ER....its horrible feeling helpless like you can't do anything and don't know whats going to happen....and its horrible to know that the people you love are getting old and there is nothing you can do...and when you see them and they look like it could be the last time you see them...it makes you value the little things in life....

Wednesday, June 06, 2007

I just can't do anymore work today...i don't have it in me! But alas, what do you do...well, i don't work...i also don't have a lot of new things to say either. It seems that i'm typing this blog because i'm bored because i'm not working but i can't do anymore work or i'm going to go out of my mind...which would not be good because i like my mind...well, most of the time!

The stringents played at galileos last night and that was really fun....well, kind of fun. I've been a little on the moody side lately so it wasn't as fun as it could have been or maybe was! man, i'm confusing in a making sense kind of way! hehe!

Anyway, i'm thinking some of us may go to the drive in movie this weekend....doesn't that sound like good times! it does to me...and its a triple feature for 5 dollas! Shrek 3, Spiderman 3 and something else....not sure what the third movie is though. Although i've already seen Spiderman 3 i'm good with seeing it again...i just need to make sure i take bug spray....i've already been eaten alive!

A movie that (if anyone still reads this) everyone needs to watch and is TRULY fucked up...its called Old Boy...its an asian film and although i should have expected the ending...you are so busy trying to figure everything else out that it suprises you...messed up i tell you. But should be check out!

Wednesday, May 30, 2007

Well....we are back in the state of oklahoma....the trip to san antonio was really fun....we all had good times....well....i had fun. we went and visited both families...and, well...i'm not sure that that is really very fun... :) it rained most of the trip...we were going to go to fiesta texas but didn't want to get rained on so we didn't go....we ended up going to the alamo one day and that was pretty fun and we went swimming at cody's aunt, one day.

I found a new place to visit....its called house on the rock and its in wisconsin. it seems like a really, really strange place and thats why i'm interested. :) http://www.thehouseontherock.com/index.htm check it out if you like...i learned about it from a book i'm reading called....american gods by neil gaiman...so far its a pretty good book...and last night we watched a movie called mirror mask writen by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean...damn, it was good and a lot weird....which i like. There is another movie coming out based on one of his other books called stardust...it comes out august 10...it looks really really good! I'm trying to think about the other movies that we have seen but nothing is coming to me at the moment!
Ah, yes...i did remember one....its called Shinobi. Its a Ninja movie and its really good...kind of a romeo and juliet thing but not quite. it does have kind of a twist to the ending...but its really good.

Day number two in a row of writing a blog....nothing new since yesterday really though. Except today i am at work :( and my AC is fixed :)

I'm sick of looking at medical records so i'm writing this instead....

So some movies that i've recently seen....Friday night, Theresa, Steve, Cody and I watched Pans Laborynth....which was really good but nothing what i thought it was going to be. Then Cody and I watch Finding Neverland the other night....Holy shit....its freakin' flippin' sad! but good! Lets see, what else...we went and saw spiderman 3....i kind of liked it....there was a lot of drama and less build up of bad guys though....which i wasn't to happy with but whatever.

I started watching Carnivale yesterday....its an HBO series and it is messed up but good. Then there is heroes...i watched the first episode of that yesterday and i need the whole thing to come out on DVD....hooray!

Well, i guess thats about it for now...i'm excited about the SA trip....

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

I'm playing hooky today....I've pretty much caught up on my work and we are getting a lighter case load and i don't have a car...yeap....you get a new used car and look what happens...you have no AC. Good thing its still covered under warranty! Woohoo! So this week at work i will work about 3 days...i may have to take off a little early on Thursday and next week i will only be working 3 days! Hooray....Cody and i are going to San Antonio....our first couple trip together, hehe! I'm certain it will go okay....his sister lives there and i have family there so its going to be a great family time! We have pretty much met each others entire family so its no big deal anymore! Actually, some of you (if anyone still reads this) have met his sister....she came to a roller derby bout and then came with me to the brewery! Okay, i promise not to ramble on and on about cody!

I did have a great time the other night....it kind of felt like old times!

Lets see, what else can i write about! Well...i do know music....there is this neat thing that paste has started....its called discrevolt....if you are in a band or interested in new music you should check it out...discrevolt.com....its going to replace the cd. what it is, is a card....that you get something like 15 points on...and you design and sell your card at shows....then the people that buy them go to the website, type in the code on the card and get to download your songs....you can change your songs any time....and they don't have to download them all at once...in case you do change the songs.....its really a great idea....they offered for a while, 100 free cards with free shipping and the stringents barely got in on the deal.....i will be getting our cards tomorrow and i'm excited....right now we don't have anything to sell but when we do every card we sell will be profit....nice really. Above is the picture of our card!

As for new music that i'm listening to.....lets see....i'm digging the new travis....theres a band called the tossers, man...i feel like there is a lot but for the life of me i can't really think of them at the moment....well...i'll just have to let you know later. although, at work i've been listening to the cool as folk station on yahoo music and am finding many new bands that i really like....and then most of them are on e-music so that works out well! :)

As for what i'm doing with music....i, of course, have the stringents....for a list of our upcoming shows see thestringentents.com :)...actually, sarah will be out of town a lot this summer and we don't have many shows in the month of june or july but the ones we do have are going to be pretty cool.....on that everyone should come to is on a Sunday night at Edgewine (?) park July 29th...it is on the south side but the good part of the south side....its a twilight concert put on by the okc arts council....best part is that it is free....who can beat a free concert in the park....i'll

keep you posted. Then i'm working on a couple of projects with my friend Lisa Curl....we are currently starting a band of sorts....we've practiced a couple of time but don't really have a good idea on what are sound is yet.....but that comes. Then I'm playing with Lisa on her music, already established....we are going to be playing the woody gutherie festival....and several times at pearls lakeside....then we have a show in dallas coming up.....good times really.

Cody and i got our tickets to ACL last weekend. if anyone is interested in coming with us let me know...we can take the short bus (thats what i call my box car)....its a pretty good line up i think. http://www.aclfest.com/lineup.aspx i'm sure most of you have already looked at this...i'm most excited about seeing andrew bird....man, he is killer. :) Fionn Regan is going to be there too...who i think i blogged a while back about....i like his stuff too! actually now that i look at the line up again...i'm getting more excited...yes i do know that its not until september but i do love live music....
Okay...i hope everyone had a wonderful day at work or whatever it is you all are doing and i'm going to play around on the computer and watch more carnival (which is really killer, btw, and really weird) and possibly some heroes...and then who knows what else....i may be back to type another blog about movies i've watched lately....who knows...if not i will do that later....yet again i'm going to try to start writing more often...it got hard all the sudden when we started getting more case and i was actually working all day....but i think i'm starting to get into the groove of work...which is nice and i think i may be there for a little while at least...well, until i go on tour with lisa that is (haha, that was a joke :)

Well, work is becoming more time consuming :) There are more case and more people crying to me on the phone and more people winding up in jail for 3 years and have 6 kids...it makes me sick to think about sometimes!!

I got a call yesterday from Big Brothers Big Sisters and I have a meeting with a potential little sis this Thursday. This is exciting to me...when they were telling me about her it was kind of neat because it looks like she has some of the same things i went through. If that doesn't work out then i guess they will try to see if there is someone else for me. The dad of the little girl will be at the meeting too, just to make sure that i'm okay. I'm sure my hair could cause some problems :) But we will see....

Roller Derby was awesome the other night...i wanted to join but recruiting has closed so alas...i will have to wait. But, when i do get a chance it will be fun!

Lastly...the good news of the day.... jenn officially has a boyfriend! :) Some of you met him the other night at the bout. He's a great guy and hopefully we will be at Grandpa Griffith on Saturday night so you guys can see how great he is too! :)

Okay, its about time to leave work...Hooray!

Well, I'm offically done with the work that has been assigned to me this week. So unless something un-forseen happens i'm ready for the weekend! :) I love working four, ten hour days and then getting three days off! It makes my life very happy. The down fall to all of this though is that its now 2:30 and i have to be here until 5:30....so needless to say, i'm going to be bored. Good thing i've taken up knitting :) I'm currently working on a baby blanket for a friend of mine...i've already started one and it just didnt' work out so well so we will see what happens with this one...i like knitting because it keeps my hands busy and your able to talk and pay attention to other things while doing it! Being as i'm a person who needs to be doing something most of the time, it comes in handy.

And i've also got my book. I'm currently reading Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk, i have two words to say....FUCKED UP! I'm loving it but this is seriously one of the most messed up books i've read in a while. When i was going to bed last night i noticed this weird face staring up at me from the floor. Yeap, almost peed my pants because the DAMN cover glows in the freakin' flippin' dark!!! But all is better now...

Stranger than ficition came out on video on Tuesday and i recommend everyone to see it. Its really good and Will Farrell does a very good job in a serious roll (but this is my opinion). Also, Target currently has the Firefly DVD's on sell for $20. This is a killer, killer buy and Firefly just pretty much kicks ass....so thats all i have to say about that!

I hope everyone has a very lovely weekend...

Damn...my head hurts :( Not sure why really...it just does! Really nothing new is going on...work is taking some getting used to...i'm having a hard time staying focused and getting what needs to be done done...and everyone keeps calling with a 100 new things that are making them disabled! Problem is, is that i have a lot of those same problems and working on their case! :) But what do you do....

Anyway...Special K Chocolate Delight is really Delightful and i recommend it to everyone...and no it doesn't break my no sweet for Lent...because its a cereal! :)

This is all i can write right now...if i find time and energy tomorrow i will try to write more :)

Wilco May 15th

well, thats all i got for now! :) Radioheads new album comes out this year too but haven't found any reliable dates :)

so last night i finished reading velvet elvis....it took me a little while, i know! but i really like it!

He writes towards the end of the book about heaven and hell. I like his idea that we are here on earth to make heaven on earth so that God can come down to earth to live here with us. How do we make heaven here on earth...well, we do what Jesus did when he was here on earth. This is something that i've thought for a while now, but it gets a little overwhelming when it doesn't seem like even "christians" believe this. And when it seems that everyone is out for themselves and not willing to help those who need help. I see this in a lot of the people i work with....the attitude of "they got themselves in the situation, they can get themselves out"....oh, this could be farther from the truth. Anyway...its a good book....it kind of gives me hope for religion and for the earth even...although it seems that its getting a lot worse than any better :)
